THE spirit of the community came to the fore at the recent opening of the ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’ art exhibition at Uralla’s Chaucer on Bridge gallery (aka Granny Fi’s Toy Cupboard).
The mixed-media art exhibition opened by Uralla CanAssist president Mary-Ann Munsie, who said the charity support was beyond belief.
“Throughout Uralla Shire, and beyond, people are very supportive of events we are associated with, and this exhibition is a great example,” she said.
Uralla artist Lee Milroy’s exhibition celebrates a happy 12-month anniversary following successful radiotherapy treatment after a breast cancer diagnosis.
Lee was just beginning to realise her gift for painting at school but was told to give it away and pay more attention to geography and mathematics.
“Following my school years, art was then put on the shelf, for family then took first place,” she said.
“Now I find much more time to be creative.”
“Now I would like to give something back to CanAssist for their assistance when expenses were heavy,” she said.
“The world and everything in it is bright and beautiful once more, so I reasoned an art exhibition would be appropriate.”
Thus the exhibition concept, ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’ an apt description of her artistic works.
The 33 works on exhibition celebrate creation projected by the realism of a mix of animals, birds, flowers, and landscapes.
“I can’t help but take in the gifts of nature when I’m driving along a country road; the trees, horses, and the vision splendid appear so picturesque before my very eyes,” she said.
Her works are a blend of mixed media, acrylic, and oils.
“The textual effect influences me as I envisage the final outcome.”
Lee is inspired by the overall spectrum of artwork and to her it’s just like playing when she was a kid.
“Now I have permission to play, it’s a gift I enjoy so much.”
The exhibition, at Chaucer on Bridge, aka Granny Fi’s Toy Cupboard, 42 Bridge Street, Uralla, runs until early August and is open Fridays 10am-4pm, Saturdays 10am-1pm, and Sundays 1pm-4pm.
Proceeds of art sales go to CanAssist Uralla. A donation box for CanAssist is also at the exhibition.
