Fellowship grant up for grabs

THE NSW Government is now offering an annual $30,000 fellowship for emerging visual artists.
Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall said the 2013 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship for Emerging Artists was open to NSW residents currently within the first eight years of practice as a visual artist.
“The fellowship is open to visual artists across our region at the beginning of their career to support a program of professional development,” Mr Marshall said.
“Applicants will be assessed by an independent panel on their artistic merit, professional skills and experience, the suitability of their proposed program in relation to their artistic practice and the significance of the program to their career.
“As part of the assessment process, a shortlist of up to 12 artists will be selected to participate in an exhibition to be held at Artspace Visual Arts Centre in Sydney from October 4-20 later this year,” he said.
“The fellowship recipient will be selected from the short-listed artists with an announcement to be made in October following the installation of the finalists’ exhibition.
“I certainly encourage all of the creative visual artists from across our region to apply for this fellowship.”
The fellowship was established following a recent review of Arts NSW’s fellowships and scholarships program.
Artists applying for the 2013 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship for Emerging Artists need to submit a proposed program of professional development, which can include activities such as mentorships or internships with recognised professional artists, residencies at recognised institutions or non-degree short-term courses, workshops or other training.
Guidelines for applying for the 2013 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship for Emerging Artists are available from www.arts.nsw.gov.au
Applications close at midnight on Wednesday, 14 August.
