GUYRA Shire Council will receive $20,000 from the NSW Government to assist with its planned upgrade of the Guyra Recreation Ground.

Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall welcomed the funding allocation, from NSW Sport and Recreation’s participation project grants program, which will help install an underground irrigation system at the community’s central sports facility.
“This is wonderful news for the Guyra sporting community which will benefit from a hugely improved ground as a result of the upgrade,” Mr Marshall said.
“With no existing watering system the recreation ground is completely reliant on regular rainfall to maintain good grass cover all year round for all sports.
“The new irrigation system will give the council the ability to undertake regular watering of the ground for the first time, enhancing the standard of playing surface and making it a vastly safer sports facility.”
Mr Marshall recently met with Guyra Mayor Hans Hietbrink to discuss the council’s overall improvement plan for the Recreation Grounds, particularly the irrigation system for the main oval.
Cr Hietbrink said council was very pleased with the funding announcement.
“It’s a project we’ve been looking to undertake for some time but had been waiting to secure complementary grant funds,” he said.
“After the construction of the new picket fence around the oval a few years ago, council wanted to install an irrigation system to ensure the quality of the field matched its impressive perimeter.
“We’re very grateful to the State Government and our new local member for giving this project the last push it needed to get across the line.”
The Guyra Recreation Ground is home to many sports in Guyra, but primarily cricket in the summer months and soccer (football) during the winter season.
