GCIT (Gold Coast Institute of TAFE) is looking to improve access to educational opportunities, support services and will continue to have a campus for its students at the southern end of the Gold Coast.
GCIT Chief Executive Officer Aaron Devine said, although the Institute is reviewing the location of the Coolangatta campus, there were no plans for GCIT to stop offering programs in the region and will maintain a physical campus in the area.
The Institute is looking at options to relocate its Scott Street Coolangatta services to the Southern Cross University (SCU) Campus at Bilinga.
Mr Devine said this will enable a higher standard of student and educational support options for the future, while maintaining a campus and educational access on the Southern Gold Coast.
“Currently there are no fixed timeframes on the shift from the Scott Street campus and GCIT remains committed to the provision of quality training services for students in the area,” he said.
“We anticipate that timings would be clearer in the coming months once we have talked further with staff, students and local representatives.”
Mr Devine said the eventual move from its current campus to the SCU site accords with the Institute’s commitment to improving the environment for its students. GCIT are also key partners in the development of the new Southern Cross University College at Bilinga.
“We are currently working with Southern Cross University in the establishment of a new Associate Degree program through the Southern Cross University College campus at Bilinga,” he said.
“The partnership will increase learning opportunities for students on the Southern Gold Coast, with improved access to new, high-quality educational facilities and support services.
“The addition of the innovative Coomera Campus in 2011 was a first step in the Institute’s plans to refresh its infrastructure; the provision of new facilities for southern based students is a continuation of our future vision.”
