A busy but rewarding end of 2011 was enjoyed by students of Duranbah Public School.
The annual visit to Kingscliff Gardens Nursing Home delighted residents with their selections from Wonderland Adventures and a Medley of Christmas Songs.
The Annual School Presentation commenced with a tasty barbeque organised by P&C Association members. This was followed by the awards presentations hosted by School Principal Ms S Ellis. Opportunity was made to farewell the Dave Perry family as their youngest child heads off to secondary schooling. Grandma Doreen Perry was also farewelled after a sterling, seven year, weekly commitment to the school canteen.
The Philip family, represented by Margaret and Joey, made the inaugural ‘Tiny’ Philip Award for Mathematical Achievement. Tiny was a former school student and ardent supporter for many decades! Colin and Helen Withey were also in attendance to present the Mary Loder Award for Citizenship. Colin’s mother, Mary was a former student of the school in its fledgling days and a member of a very well known Duranbah family.
Following the presentations, the children delighted those in attendance with a performance of “Wonderland Adventures”. This was followed by a delightful medley of Christmas Songs that heralded a visit by Santa.
Duranbah Public School is regarded as one of the educational treasures of the Tweed in its beautiful rural setting. With a bus service ‘right to the school door’ and a caring staff it provides a safe educational environment for children from Kindergarten to Year 6. A full educational experience encompasses academics, sporting and cultural experiences with highly qualified personnel.
Whilst enrolments have increased for 2012, vacancies still exist for Kindergarten to Year 6.
