Tweed manager grabs AFL bragging rights

It wasn’t just the Lions and the Suns who took some knocks during the AFL QClash at the Gabba  last week.
Local BOQ Tweed Heads South Owner-Manager Craig Tuckwell joined 27 other BOQ Branch Managers and Owner-Managers in pulling on the boots for the game’s curtain raiser, the BOQClash.
And with the Gold Coast Suns grabbing bragging rights after a week of heated banter between the Suns and the Lions, it was the same in the BOQClash, with the BOQ Suns claiming victory.
But according to Craig, both sides were just thrilled to have the opportunity to run on at the Gabba – and go home without any injuries!
“We all love our AFL but I’ve never before had the opportunity to actually run on at the Gabba; it was such an amazing feeling,” said Craig.
“And even better not to go home with a torn hamstring or a ruptured ACL – that would have brought the elation down a notch or two, not to mention the embarrassment of facing up to work on Monday!”
And it wasn’t just the players who took something away from the game; for each goal kicked during the BOQClash, BOQ donated $250 to its annual fundraising appeal, Banking on our Kids, with another $50 for each mark.
“We were thrilled to raise a total of $4,600 for Children’s Hospital Foundations Australia (CHFA), the beneficiary of our annual fundraising appeal, Banking on our Kids,” he said.
“Each year our branch, and the local community, really gets behind the appeal and it was fantastic to be able to kick start the fundraising before the appeal actually launches on 1 July.
“Having seen the great work that CHFA does, I know the funds raised are going to a really great cause.”
BOQ is a major sponsor of the Brisbane Lions and a major support partner of the Gold Coast Suns.
