Head: Indoor championships
The indoor championships were played at East Cessnock last week, and Chris Kliendienst of Guyra played very well to reach the semi-final only to be beaten by the eventual winner. And the same player defeated former Armidale City man Bill Ahoy in the final. Bill is now playing for Valentine in the Newcastle area and they are through to the state number one pennant finals at Merimbula Bay. They have drawn a very hard section with matches against Taren Point, Cabramatta and Wenty Leagues. Two other former Armidale City players are also in the state number one finals and Jay Porter and Anthony Jarvis will play for Dubbo Railway against Ettalong, Kempsey Heights and either Ballina or Kingscliffe.
Head: City clubs major/minor bowls carnival
Entries are open for the City clubs major/minor bowls carnival on 27-28 July and the event is open to men’s, mixed or ladies teams with no restriction placed on entries from ladies teams. They need not contain a minor graded player. It is hoped that players support this carnival as it is a great chance for major players to ask a minor graded player to play. Two bowl pairs bring the best out of players with the emphasis on draw shots. Entry forms have been forwarded to all district clubs.
Head: New South Wales versus Queensland test series
Last week, I attended the New South Wales versus Queensland test series in West Toowoomba. New South Wales won the series two tests to one. This means that the open team has gone through 2013 undefeated and this includes all matches in the Alley Shield, quite an achievement. It was a pleasure to watch most of the best bowlers in Australia battle it out in difficult weather conditions
