Hockey squad claims gold

THE New England Women’s Open representative hockey team travelled to Narellan over the June long weekend to compete at the NSW State Championships at the Macarthur Regional Hockey Complex.
The New England women finished first overall in Division 3 and won the gold medal. The team performed outstandingly over the weekend, under the watchful eye of coach Paul Eichorn and manager Helen Ray. Their win is also a great sign for the future of hockey in the New England area.

The women competed in division 3, pool A.
Game 1: New England played Mailtland
Score: HNE won 9 nil.
Goals: 1 x Sarah Parker, 1 x Katrina Rekunow, 1 x Julia Waters, 3 x Britt Parker, 3 x Margie Davis
Game 2: New England played Eastern Districts
Score: HNE lost 2 nil
Sunday:
Game 3: New England played Central Coast
Score: HNE won 2 nil
Goals: 1 x Katrina Rekunow, 1 x Britt Parker
After three games of hockey, New England placed second in Pool A in Division 3.
Hockey New England then played on Sunday Night at 7.15pm in the Semi Finals
SEMI FINAL: New England played Macarthur
Score: HNE won 3 – 1
Goals: 1 x Sarah Parker, 2 x Margie Davis
As the women won their semi final game this placed them first in Pool A in Division 3. They then went on to play in the Grand Final on Monday afternoon at 1pm.
GRAND FINAL: New England played Eastern Districts
Score: HNE won 2 – 1
Goals: 1 x Britt Parker, 1 x Katrina Rekunow.
