THE Nationals candidate for New England Barnaby Joyce has signed a pledge committing to support the fair indexation of Defence Forces Retirement Benefit (DFRB) and Defence Force Retirement and Death Benefits (DFRDB) military superannuation pensions.
Mr Joyce invited Shadow Minister for Veterans Affairs Senator Michael Ronaldson and The Nationals Duty Senator for New England, John Williams to hear from veterans in Tamworth and Armidale on the subject of military superannuation pensions.
Mr Joyce said last week’s discussions with veterans had again highlighted that the Labor Government had not kept faith with its military service personnel.
“This is an issue that has been raised time and time again by veterans as I have been travelling around the electorate,” Mr Joyce said.
“I am a firm believer that our military servicemen and women, after giving so much for their country, deserve to live out their lives in the knowledge that they have financial security.
“I have joined Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott and Shadow Minister for Veterans Affairs Senator Michael Ronaldson as well as my Coalition colleagues across the country in signing a pledge to provide fair indexation for the recipients of DFRB and DFRDB military superannuation pensions,” he said.
“Under the pledge, a future Coalition Government will ensure that DFRB and DFRDB superannuants aged 55 and over will have their superannuation pensions indexed in the same way as aged and service pensions.”
