Lions in the trees

A group of Cabarita Beach Pottsville Beach Lions and Leos are joining forces with the Tweed Shire Council to plant trees near the Black Rocks Estate at Pottsville on Saturday, June 23.
This project is part of the International Lions President’s goal of planting one million trees during his time as President.
The local group said they were proud to be part of a worldwide project which has surpassed all expectations in the number of trees planted.
In the words of Lions International President Wing-Kun Tam, “I have always believed that Lions can change the world but this year we did so, literally.”
“By planting more than 9.7 million trees we have changed the very face of and altered – for the better – the basic processes that sustain and renew all life on Earth,” he said.
A single tree can absorb as much as 21.5kgs of carbon dioxide each year and produce enough oxygen to support two human beings.
At maturity, the trees planted by Lions will be removing more than 20,000 tons of carbon dioxide and adding enough oxygen to the atmosphere to support almost 17 million people!
The Cabarita Beach Pottsville Beach Lions and Leos will add another 200 trees to that total and thank the Tweed Shire Council and Local Dune Care Group for their support.
