Youth on display

The youth of Cabarita went on display last week all in the name of art.
Young people from the area had been busy for two months learning the finer points of digital photography at the Cabarita Youth Services, thanks to Solua Middleton of ABC Open.
Their task was to find a stranger in Cabarita, interview them and take some portrait photographs.
Soula said she was very impressed by their developing confidence talking to other people.  Equally impressive were their creative and camera skills.
Lauren Page, with her picture called ‘Aqua Impact’, received her award from Karen Cranwell, President of the Cabarita Youth Services.
For Lauren the experience confirmed her desire to be a photographic journalist. “It’s given me the confidence to go for it,” she said.
Christian Medraft and Ashley Kenwood produced some great portraits and shots of the magnificent local beach.
The man behind the program was Cabarita Youth Services Activities Co-ordinator, Matt Cotter.
He said he witnessed remarkable development during the two months.
“We are so lucky to have such talented youth,” he said.
“I clearly saw the real person as these kids worked on this project and I am so proud of them.”
More activities are planned, including the renovation of an old catamaran.
Special thanks go to Soula Middleton, Rosemary and Ellis Fisher of Bilinudgel who donated the frames and to Steve Webb of Insight Image, Cabarita, for printing the photos.
