Day of Prayer brings all religions together

It is being held in the St Anthony’s Catholic Church this year but the Tweed Coast’s chapter of the World Day of Prayer is truly Ecumenical.
Organiser Val Gregor from the Kingscliff Uniting Church said the event is shared around the churches each year and with members of all the local congregations including the Catholics, Uniting, Presbyterian and Anglicans conducting the service together.
This year’s event will be held at 10am on March 2.
And while the event is run by women for women, anyone at all – whatever their religion or gender – is welcome to come along to pray.
St Anthony’s parishioner Mary Hammermaster said as well as changing location each year the service also changes focus with a different country in the spotlight.
The 2012 world-wide event has been prepared by the women of Malayasia and carries the theme ‘Let justice prevail’.
The World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women of many traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer each year, and who, in many countries, have a continuing relationship in prayer and service.
It is a movement initiated and carried out by women in more than 170 countries and regions and is symbolised by an annual day of celebration – the first Friday of March – to which all people are welcome.
It brings together women of various races, cultures and traditions in closer fellowship, understanding and action throughout the year.
“It brings a great satisfaction, sense community and friendship,” Val said.
