Thousands of visitors to Uralla have experienced good old country hospitality over the years.
Now it’s time to celebrate. On November 25, Uralla Visitor Information Centre (VIC) will celebrate its twentieth year of operation.
The VIC on Bridge Street was officially opened by His Excellency Rear-Admiral Peter Sinclair, AO, Governor of NSW on Sunday, November 24, 1991.
Community Development Officer, Patrick Dogan, said the VIC operated as the tourism gateway to Uralla and district.
“The success of the VIC is largely attributed to the small number of managers who have overseen its operation during that time,” he said.
“Management has wel-comed the support of staff and many residents who have volunteered their time to welcome and assist visitors.”
Currently an average 950 visitors a month seek tourist information at Uralla VIC.
To celebrate the occasion, local residents are encouraged call in to the VIC to see what recent changes have taken place.
Changes include acquisition of a liquor licence, which enables sales of local wines – such as Merilba Estate, Mihi Creek Vineyard and WhyWorry Wines.
There’s also the addition of local products – from Sunhill Essential Skincare, Austral Herbs and Winjana Olives, as well as a range of books, souvenirs, maps and brochures.
To celebrate the anniversary, all local products will be reduced by 20 per cent during the week to November 25.
Shire residents are invited to call in to meet the staff and local producers for wine, cheese, olives and herbal tea tastings between 2.00pm and 5.00pm on Friday, November 25.
To help celebrate this milestone, McCrossin’s Mill Museum will open its doors for free entry to Shire residents from 4.00pm-7.00pm on Thursday, November 24.
