Outrigger in the swing

How do you squeeze a 1960 Chevrolet Corvette into a hotel lobby?
The answer is “with great difficulty” – in fact it made it through the doors of the Outrigger Twin Towns Resort with just centimetres to spare.
But it was one of the more interesting and wacky things that went on during the Cooly Rocks On Festival which gripped our border towns of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads.
But it was all in keeping with their guests for the festival – the bevy of bodgies, widgies and boomers – who filled both towers of the 360-room Outrigger Twin Towns Resort.
Manoeuvred through the lobby doors, the sparkling Chevrolet Corvette took pride of place beside two prestige Harley Davidson motorbikes and a 1950s song list jukebox booming out popular rock ’n’ roll hits of the 50s and 60s.
And it wasn’t just the lobby that got “all shook up”  – the staff did too.
In fact, all 65 staff at Outrigger Twin Towns Resort donned poodle skirts, leather jackets, denim and lashings of Brylcreem and got into the spirit, too.
