The tables were turned for unpaid carers in the community who were recognised and given a well deserved pampering of their own at a special ‘Pamper Day’ during Carers Week.
To recognise the contribution of local carers, Armidale Dumaresq Council (ADC), New England Medicare Local, Intergratedliving Australia and Alzheimer’s Australia NSW hosted a ‘Pamper Day’ at Kent House in Armidale last week.
The special day was appreciated by local Carers who were treated to wonderful massages, a delicious lunch, and soothing sounds performed by the Presbyterian Ladies’ College (PLC) Armidale string music trio.
“This day provided an opportunity for Carers to get together, exchange information and simply relax,” said Stephanie Watts, ADC’s Dementia Day Respite Coordinator.
“Carers deserve time out from an often overloaded schedule of looking after someone. Our organisations decided to get together and pool resources to thank the carers for their wonderful efforts.
“I would also like to thank the TAFE students for coming along to massage our Carers,” said Ms Watts.
Carers are the foundation of our aged, disability, community, mental health and palliative care systems.
Over 2.6 million unpaid Carers spend, on average, 40 hours a week providing care. Annually, Carers contribute 1.32 million hours of unpaid care, estimated at $6.5 billion.
Armidale Dumaresq Council provides support and education to Carers and facilitates a monthly Carers’ Support Group in the Jacaranda Room of Kent and Hughes House from 2 ro 4pm, on the second Tuesday of each month.
