Uralla Shire Council is encouraging residents to register their interest in green waste collection. The service, which began in November 2011 for urban residents, is a voluntary service costing as little as $98.50 in the first year.
Currently the collection of green waste is only available in town. However, with enough interest registered from residents of other areas within the shire, this service can be made available.
Uralla Shire Council Environmental Project Officer Kath Little is encouraging everyone within the Shire to register with the council for green waste collection.
“The cost per collection is $1.90, a fortnightly collection from November to May, and a monthly collection from May to November,” Kath Little said.
“There is a one-off cost of $60.50 to purchase the green waste bin.
“In the first year, a green waste collection service costs as little as $98.50.
“Council has advertised this collection service in our monthly Council newsletters throughout 2011, at Uralla market days and at the Thunderbolt Festival in October 2011.”
In addition to the green waste collection service, Uralla Shire Council offers alternative green waste/organic waste solutions, including worm farms and compost tumblers; which are available for purchase from the Council office.
During Council cleanup days scheduled for May 14 and 15 and November 12 and 13, Council offers Uralla residents free onsite green waste mulching. (Volume restrictions apply.) Residents do have to book at the Council office for the mulching service.
