Fifteen young talented girl hockey players from the Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS) returned home last Sunday after competing at Clubs NSW Academy Games in Wollongong.
The 15 strong hockey squad were accompanied by Coach Andrew Farmilo and manager Bina Armstrong and were a force to be reckoned.
The Academy Games were a fantastic opportunity for the girls to put their hockey skills, training techniques and fitness to the test.
The games commenced with an opening ceremony at the University of Wollongong. The girls then knuckled down to some serious hockey over the 3 day program. The NIAS girls won their games against South West Sydney Academy of Sport (SWSAS) 2 -0, Greater Sydney Hockey Academy (GSHA) 2-1, Southern Sports Academy(SSA) 4-0 and Hunter Academy of Sport(HAS) 2-1. They lost against Illawarra Academy of Sport (IAS) 4-0 and Western Region Academy of Sport (WRAS) 2-0. Drawing their match 1-1 against North Coast Academy of Sport (NCAS) in an absolute nail-bitter.
The hockey girls performance on and off the field was a credit to them, their coach, manager and to the NIAS executives. Playing in the true spirit of hockey, the results from the games speak for themselves, indicating the effort, commitment and dedication the NIAS hockey squad have made to the hockey program for 2012.
