Fresh forensic evidence submitted

URANGA man Cecil Paul Briggs, 40, had bail formally refused when he faced Armidale Local Court last Wednesday, via audio/visual link, from Cessnock Correctional Centre.
Briggs is facing a murder charge in relation to the brutal bashing of Armidale local, Douglas James Bindley on Christmas Eve 2012.
The 47-year-old victim was allegedly bashed in his flat in Brown Street, west Armidale. The accused is alleged to have used a wooden chair leg and a baseball bat.
Forensic evidence was tendered to the court. The matter had been delayed by the wait for the forensic analysis of the items allegedly used in the attack.
On Wednesday, Magistrate Karen Stafford was advised laboratory results using the new technology to look for the presence of DNA on the items had been completed.
Briggs was originally charged with reckless wounding. The charge was upgraded to murder when Douglas Bindley died in Armidale Hospital on Boxing Day.
The matter was adjourned until 21 August.
