Fundraising never looked so much fun, thanks to the Rotary Club of Kingscliff.
Now, we are all used to seeing ducks on the Cudgen Creek, but on Sunday morning, there will be more ducks than you could poke a feather at.
But don’t worry, they won’t be eating much – the more than 1400 ducks will all be of the “rubber duckie” variety and will only be temporary residents for the annual Rotary Duck event.
The Rotary Club of Kingscliff is raising funds for Cudgen Surf Life Saving and their latest project (in partnership with Tweed Shire Council), the proposed revitalisation of the Ed Parker Rotary Park alongside the Cudgen Creek.
With a little help from the Watersports Gurus and Rory Curtis’s The Good Guys, they will be holding a family fun day to raise the much needed money to fix up the park.
The family event starts at 9am with a 5km stand-up paddle or kayak event in Cudgen Creek.
The day will finish with the famous Rotary Duck event where 1400 plastic ducks will be released into the creek and the first lucky duck to cross the line will win its owner the chance to win $2000 from the cash booth.
There will also be the corporate duck event, where 50 large ducks will race the creek to take out the prestigious DUCK OF THE CREEK award and the business will proudly display the perpetual trophy in their business for 12 months, according to event spokesperson Maggie-Anne Leybourne.
“And we can’t hold an event without having a best dressed Duck,” she said.
“Businesses are invited to dress their ducks in corporate colours and costumes, to win various prizes from our sponsors.”
Entry forms for the paddle events will be available from the website www.rotaryduckrace.com.au or Tim at Watersports Guru at the fig tree roundabout in Kingscliff. Tim@watersportsguru.com
Meanwhile the compet-ition seems to have gone international, with two of the corporate competitors “ducking” off to see the world – with a little help from a friend (nice one Rory).
