New clubhouse for Salt

The eighth annual Salt Surf Lifesaving Club sportsman’s lunch and fundraiser took on special significance this year, with the club using the event to launch their clubhouse fund.
Salt SLSC president Mark Humphries announced to the 200 guests, including sporting celebrities Mick Doohan, Grant Kenny, Trevor Hendy and Matt Rogers, that the club hoped to built the club within “the next couple of years”.
He said the club had allocated $100k to start the project, which should coast $1.8 million.
“We will be asking the State and Federal Govern-ments for grants,” Mr Humphries said.
“If we can then raise $2-300,000 we will be able to get started within the next two years.”
The clubhouse will be built to the east of the club’s existing storage facilities, just to the North of the Saltbar, a major supporter of the surf club which hosted Friday’s sports lunch. The club started its fundraising on Friday and will be selling family bricks as part of the fundraising efforts. For further information, contact the club.
Mr Humphries said the club was currently with architect Scott Carpenter and the DA was “close to submission”.
Friday’s event was hosted by Tom Ray, whose family developed the Salt Precinct, with comedian Steve Allison acting MC. As well as an extensive buffet lunch and auctions of sporting memorabilia, the guest were also treated to speeches by guest speakers: cricketer Rodney Hogg and champion jockey Malcolm Johnston.
