The Tweed’s peak tourism body Destination Tweed has set out its blueprint for marketing the region over the next four years.
The group blueprint is contained in two strategies Tweed Business Attraction Marketing Strategy and the Tweed Tourism Marketing Strategy.
The two strategies were presented to Tweed Shire Council and approved at last week’s Council meeting, and according to DT chairman Niel Mason they will set the direction for future promotion of the Tweed as a destination for business investment and tourism visitation.
“The development of the Four-Year Strategic Marketing and Promotional Plan was a key criterion of the Tweed Shire Council tender awarded to Destination Tweed in October 2010,” Niel Mason said.
“Based on extensive research and community consultation, these documents clearly identify our target markets and the range of tourism and business investment opportunities most likely to drive future economic growth for
the region.
“The Destination Tweed team worked in partnership with a leading economics, research and marketing consultancy to compile an in-depth analysis of the region’s tourism and business profile, existing product and infrastructure, and the over-arching trends that influence business investment decisions and travel planning.
“Our task now is to prioritise the opportunities identified and leverage our unique competitive advantages in order to deliver optimum results for business operators across the broad spectrum of the Tweed’s industry sectors.”
Tweed Mayor, Councillor Kevin Skinner said the two strategies establish a clear strategic direction for tourism promotion and business attraction for the Tweed.
“Last year Council contracted Destination Tweed to help strengthen the economy by attracting business to the Tweed, something that is certainly needed in these difficult economic times,” Councillor Skinner said.
“Destination Tweed currently operates Council’s Visitor Information Centres at Tweed Heads and Murwillumbah and is responsible for promotion of the Tweed as a destination.
“The release of this Tourism Strategy by Destination Tweed has identified new markets so they can better focus their promotions.”
