Singing for supper

By TANIA PHILLIPS

THE Tweed Coast is turning back the clock to the time of supper clubs where beautiful songstresses entertained and the ever entertaining host kept the action swinging along.
The newest supper club is at Saltbar and makes its debut on Thursday, 11 July at 7pm.
But if you are expecting a host in an ill-fitting suit with slicked back hair then think again. Saltbar have called on the ever versatile and much-admired local comedian Mandy Nolan.
Mandy is a “jill of all trades” – a well-known comedian, mother, wife, writer and local North Coaster who can turn her hand to anything. Mandy will be joined by an equally talented fellow local – blues and roots artist Lil’ Fi who will join her as the first ever supper club special guest.
If you haven’t caught up with Mandy Nolan you probably don’t get out much! She has been a stand-up comedian for 25 years and has performed to critical acclaim here, there and everywhere with Austen Tayshus once declaring her as “one of the strongest female talents in the country”.
Her humour is sharp, honest, sometimes self-depreciating and often unpredictable.
Lil’ Fi is a darling of the Byron Blues Fest, Woodford Folk Festival and Blues on Broadbeach and has been convener of the Ladies Sing The Blues Festival for the past 10 years.
Held in intimate surrounds, the Saltbar Supper Club with Mandy Nolan offers a warm, cosy evening full of comedy, blues and roots.
