The Sydney Water-sponsored Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Clean Beaches Award 2012 came to Caba this week to inspect the beauty of the coastal area.
Cabarita Beach is one of six beaches which have entered in the Northern Rivers region.
As last year’s winners they are very proud of the cleanliness of their beach-front and the variety of coastal features.
Ms Faye Nash, Cabarita Dune Care Coordinator, said, “I am very proud to coordinate Cabarita Beach with Annie Pollard. The locals really care about the beach and help in many ways. They use the bins and walkways. There were three weddings on the beach on Sunday and it was just beautiful, not a bit of rubbish was left behind.”
Cabarita has three shorelines – the patrolled main beach, secluded Norries Cove and the powerful southerly stretch called Maggie’s Beach.
All three vistas are visible from the imposing Norries Headland. Natalie Turner, Clean Beach Assessor, toured the main beach, Norries Cove and through the Pandanus walk to the Headland.
Escorted by Cabarita Dune Care Coordinators, Faye Nash and Annie Pollard, she observed the Aboriginal midden and then wandered along the newly planted Bush Tucker Track.
In July, Bogangar students had assisted planting this new .5 kilometre bush track which meets Goanna Track at Maggie’s Beach.
School Captain Dominque Lonsdale and friend Macie-Lee McFarlane eagerly explained their five-year history of planting over 2500 trees in the coastal fringe with Dune Care volunteers.
The Clean Beaches Awards not only recognise those who work hard to improve and maintain their local beach, they also raise the profile of the winning beaches, draw tourism to the area and assist in the attraction of funding to further protect and improve the beach.
Fingal Head, Hastings Point, Wooli Main Beach and Byron Bay Main Beach are also competing for the titles, making it a strong competition.
