Cultural diversity was celebrated at Ben Venue Public School last Wednesday, with the school participating in Harmony Day celebrations.
The whole school was involved with an afternoon of fun games originating from various countries from around the world.
Anti Racism Coordinator and Teacher at Ben Venue Public School Anne Bailey was instrumental in organising the activities, along with fellow teachers and parents.
“We have three Anti Racism Coordinators in the school and I am one of those,” Anne Bailey said.
“For the last three years we have organised some form of activities for Harmony Day.
“The North West region took the initiative this year to put together a booklet of games from all over the world and sent that out to schools.
“Normally we would have an assembly, sing some songs and dress up in costume, but we decided this year that we have Multicultural Day in May so we would save our costume for then and instead do activities and games out of that handbook.”
Harmony Day is a day for all Australians to reflect on where Australia has come from, whilst acknowledging the traditional owners of the land. Harmony Day provides an opportunity to celebrate the benefits and opportunities that cultural diversity brings.
