Seniors Week was celebrated last week during the Celebrate Seniors event on Wednesday, March 21 at the Town Hall.
Armidale Dumaresq Council (ADC) is grateful for the efforts of all who supported Seniors Week 2012; especially as it was done on a shoe-string budget. The event gave our community’s seniors the opportunity for social interaction over a whole week and included a variety of events.
Supporters of the event included Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay, Mayor Peter Ducat, Councillors Jim Maher and Herman Beyersdorf, Aboriginal Community Elders, the General Manager Shane Burns, CWA, Care for Seniors, and many other community groups and service providers.
Armidale Dumaresq Council operates the Kent House Community Centre with financial assistance from Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC) and provides information and general support for the aged, including those dealing with mental health issues such as depression and dementia. Kent House provides information, assessment and referral to other mental health services. It is also a facility for groups to meet, including mental health support groups.
