MORE than 120 players from four districts are set to converge on the Pottsville and Ocean Shores bowls clubs for the women’s region one pennant play-offs next week.
The two Tweed Byron clubs will host the event from 4-5 June, with bowlers coming from as from south of Coffs Harbour right up to the Queensland border.
The bowlers will vie for a berth at the state play-offs to be held later in the year.
Ocean Shores Bowls Club is the venue for grades one and two where sides from Kingscliff and Pottsville will represent the Tweed Byron district. Pottsville will host grades three and four will be over at Pottsville Bowls Club where Mullumbimby and Ocean Shores will be the locals to watch.
Winners at this major event will go forward to challenge for state flags at Port Stephens in mid-August. Congratulations to Wendy Fielding and Coral Withers (skip) winners of this year’s Tweed Byron district championship pairs. They fought a hard battle against last year’s winners, Mary Chisholm and Carolyn Caine. The game was a shot for shot, magnificent display of great bowling prowess from both teams. Best wishes to Coral and Wendy for continued good bowling at the regional play-off in August.
