Things heat up in Murwillumbah

CALM water and sunshine are on order for Sunday 16 June, when the sixth Head of the Tweed (HoTT) half marathon is raced.
This event covers 21 kilometres of the Tweed River, starting at Chinderah Bay and finishing at the Murwillumbah Rowing Club.
This year, WinTech Racing will be providing a brand new Wintech Racing Single Scull as the rowers’ draw prize. Every rowing seat entry goes into the draw to win the Wintech single. “Competitors come from the full length of the east coast of Australia, with the Murwillumbah Rowing Club ensuring it is worth their effort,” rowing club spokeswoman Karen Schiller said.
“The program offers strong competition for participants and excellent entertainment for spectators with tasty food and bar facilities.
“This year, crews from as far as Victoria and Townsville will compete. Crews participate for different reasons – last year a father and daughter crew completed the course, a ’bride to be’ raced, schools use it as a training event and others just enjoy the beautiful view as they spend time rowing/paddling with friends.
“Last year’s event was a great success helped by favourable weather. Over 100 crews participated, and with support teams that meant approximately 400 people were in attendance. All enjoyed the beautiful venue and great entertainment on and off the water.”
Karen said the event was growing each year.
“As far as the club is aware HoTT is the most popular and successful half marathon race in Australia,” she said.
“So all rowers, dragon boat paddlers and any other watercraft that can be powered by sweat and muscle is welcome to enter.”
So make a day of it. For further information visit www.hott.com.au.
