Wilson lifts you higher and higher

By TANIA PHILLIPS

THERE was only one Jackie Wilson – the man that brought us such worldwide hits as Reet Petite, Lonely Teardrops and Higher and Higher.
The man was a music legend, but sadly was lost to the world in 1984. However his music lives on and who better to bring that music to the world than his son Bobby Brooks Wilson.
Las Vegas-based Bobby is here on the Tweed to play Twin Towns as part of Cooly Rocks On and it’s hard to think of any music that will get the region rocking more than some of the Jackie Wilson Classics.
The Twin Towns show mark Bobby’s return to Australia – although this time for just a short tour.
But he is bringing his high energy and musically diverse to the place where we are all ready to rock and roll.
And it’s not just about the music of his legendary father, as he brings the music and style of some other legends of rock, roll and soul to our festival.
He brings to the stage a range of characters such as Stevie Wonder, Little Richard, Chubby Checker, Sam Cooke and many more.
There is essentially one reason — and it’s a very good one — to see Bobby on stage and that is the star, the true son of a true legend, Bobby Brooks Wilson who puts on a show of such physical and vocal dexterity that it’s almost impossible to imagine that anyone else could do it.
As Jackie Wilson the Detroit singer whose career spanned the morphing of the city’s musical signature from rhythm and blues into Motown, Bobby Brooks Wilson cavorts and gyrates with such gymnastic aplomb that you wonder where he stores the lung power for his potent pop tenor.
His presence completely overshadows the show itself.
There is music galore and the performances of Bobby bringing Elvis, Little Richard and more to the Stage is just amazing.
Bobby Brooks Wilson’s hugely successful Las Vegas show has appeared in Europe, the UK and Japan, and now back in Australia.
