It’s not every day you get to meet your hero but that’s just what happened for Tweed youngster Carlyrose Watson of Tweed Heads.
Carlyrose, a Year 2 student at Centaur Primary, and her sister Seaena met up with Dr Chris Brown at the Gold Coast Pet Expo last weekend.
It was a big occasion for Carlyrose who, even at this age, has her heart set on being a vet when she grows up.
Her favourite television show is Bondi Vet and her favourite subject to talk about is animals; so much so that she made it to the Far North Coast public speaking competition at Murwillumbah this year, with a speech on animals. Carlyrose is a keen public speaker, representing Centaur in Kindy, Year 1 and Year 2. This year she won an encouragement award for a speech on animals.
“I would love to be a vet when I grow up. One of my favourite TV shows is Bondi Vet. I was very excited when mum told me Dr Chris Brown was doing a talk on animals at the Expo,” she said of her visit to the Expo.
“When we arrived, we met a man with a diving dog called Shatarn. It was a beautiful and friendly Belgian Shepherd. There were so many cute dogs. We even saw an Alpaca. My sister and I had our faces painted. I was a rainbow tiger and she was a rainbow cat.
“We also saw animals spray painted like tigers and a pink poodle. There was a talk on wildlife. They brought out a cute ringtail possum, a snake and a bat.
“The best part of the day was a talk by Dr Chris Brown. Did you know a cat’s life span is four years if it lives outside and 14 years if it’s an indoor cat?
“My sister and I had our photo taken with him and I asked him for an autograph! It was an awesome day I’ll never forget.”
