Kingscliff TAFE was the location for the 2011 Annual Region Five Freemason Conference recently.
The conference, held on September 17 and 18, involved more than 100 delegates and their partners and was hosted by the Tweed.
The host group chose the conference to present $30,000 to the Tweed and Murwillumbah Hospitals’ Auxiliaries. The money was raised during recent fundraising raffles.
On hand were Rosemary MacFarlane and Val Foster (Murwillumbah Hospital Auxiliary) and Jan Tobin (Tweed Heads Hospital Auxiliary) to receive the cheques from RWBro Bruce Arnol (Regional Grand Councillor), RWBro Jamie Melville (Deputy Grand Master NSW & ACT) and VWBro Les Hicks (District Grand Inspector of Workings District 57).
Workshops for the weekend included Masonicare, 20/20 Masons, Northern Rivers Allied Health, Website presentations and “Connecting with the Community”. Lunch was prepared and served by the hospitality students from the Kingscliff TAFE and Masonic Motorcycle Club members were present to show off their machinery.
After an evening cruise and supper on the Tweed River on Saturday, the weekend culminated with a Masonic church service held at St Cuthbert’s Anglican Church on Sunday, with District 57 Chaplin WBro Rev John Reid, assisted by RWBro Bruce Steenson, conducting the ceremony.
With the support of local business houses such as The Bendigo Bank at Tugun and Bunnings at Burleigh Heads, fundraising in District 57 will continue well into the future, with BBQs and other fund- raising activities in support of the Tweed Valley Masonic Association already being planned.
