The adventure of a life-time for two born and bred Tweed Coasters started with a video shot at Fingal.
Dane Corowa and his cousin Adam competed in the new series of The Amazing Race Australia, which premiered last night (Wednesday, May 30 on Prime 7).
But, while the duo’s adventure took them around the world during the month-long filming late last year, the journey started at Fingal for the duo – the first indigenous team to compete on the show.
“It was just the most amazing experience and my mum got the whole ball rolling,” Dane, who now lives in Brisbane, laughed.
“She sent me the and email with the application – I hadn’t even thought of it.”
But it wasn’t long before Dane, a big fan of the show, was caught up in the excitement, ringing his Tweed-based cousin to see if he’d come with him on the adventure.
“I rang Adam (son of famous local footballer Larry Corowa) and he was just coming back from somewhere, but he was interested, so I came down and we spent all day working on our audition tape at Fingal and then went over to Pop’s place at Chinderah.”
He said it was a shock to get the call and what happened next, with the race itself, was “everything I expected and more”. Although he did admit it wasn’t as easy as he thought, with long hours on plans, buses and all sorts of transport and days without food.
But would he do it all again!
“Yep,” he said.
And now, six months after the adventure, the dynamic duo and all their Tweed Coast friends and family finally get to see just what they got up to!
