Future leaders were put through their paces at the O’Connor Year 11 leadership Day held on Tuesday, August 16. It was a great success with students learning about themselves while learning leadership skills. There were also many fun games played along the way.
The Year 11 students looked at the characteristics that they expected from there elected student leaders for 2012. The students believed College Captains needed to demonstrate these values: compassion, determination, equality, enthusiasm, confidence, faith in others/self, trustworthy-integrity, creativity, reliability and initiative.
The leadership day was run by Josh Dwyer and Karina Anthony from Sydney. Josh and Karina work for Lasallian Youth Ministry and run programs like this across NSW. Year 11 Coordinator, Steve Chapman also went through the leadership process at O’Connor as a part of the day. He went through the role descriptions for Captain and Vice Captain.
Students are currently welcome to nominate peers in Year 11 for the position of Boy or Girl captain. These nominations are due by August 29 with speeches following on September 5. Voting happens on the September 9 with the announcement made on September 16.
