Kingscliff’s Tom Grimes got the surprise of his life late last month when his family and friends decided to throw him a surprise 90th birthday party at Cudgen Leagues Club.
More than one hundred of his close family and friends came together to help him celebrate the milestone.
The well-known and much-loved gentleman of the Tweed was completely overwhelmed as he entered the function room.
Each of the guests had kept the secret from the birthday boy for many months; not an easy task in a close knit community.
Tommy (as he is commonly known) has been quite active in the local area especially in Rotary (Harris Fellow in 1987, local President in 1988-89) and in the Life Education Program. He now spends his time happily and skilfully playing bowls.
According to his family Tommy amazes all with his enthusiasm and agility in life and after the heart warming speeches of the night, he announced that those who can, should meet back at the Club in 10 years for another celebration and he will read out his letter from the Queen (or King).
An uplifting night was had by all and Tommy was presented with a memento photobook titled, “This is your life…..so far”.
