FORGET about top dog – the Rotary Club of Kingscliff is once again looking to find “top duck”.
Preparations are underway already for the club’s annual Duck and Kayak/Stand Up Paddle event.
And while the event is not until 20 October at Ed Parker Rotary Park in Kingscliff, ducks are already on sale.
Rotary club member Rory Curtis said they were hoping to release 100 corporate ducks and 2000 smaller community ducks to “swim” along the creek.
He said the much sought-after “Corporate Duck of The Creek” perpetual trophy is awarded to the winning business to display for a year. Last year’s winner was Shari Cowan of Monarch Prestige Cleaning – whose butterfly adorned duck streeted the field. Also popular was the best-dressed corporate duck award with businesses invited to dress their ducks in corporate colours and costumes to win prizes. Last year it was the highly inventive (but ultimately not very fast) Plumbjet Duck that won the judges’ hearts.
The winner of the Community Duck Race will have the chance to win a major prize.
Entry forms for the Stand Up Paddle and Kayak events are available from club’s website www.rotaryduckrace.com.au – you can also purchase ducks online.
Rory said this year community ducks were $5 each, corporate ducks are $50 each.
