Koalas still on the table

TWEED Shire Council and excutive staff are set to hold an extraodinary meeting today from 3.30pm to discuss the Kings Forest Housing development.
The request for the meeting, to be held at council’s chambers in Murwillumbah, was made by councillors Katie Milne and Gary Bagnall.
The notice of motion reads: “Council recommends the Federal Government reviews all previous ecological assessments on Kings Forest and adopts the most precautionary approach available, particularly in regard to the Cudgen Paddock and the eastern portions of the site, due to the importance for connectivity of habitat for koalas and other threatened species”.
Council had last week voted five-two to prepare a submission for the Federal Government urging a ban on all domestic dogs in the estate apart from Guide Dogs.
The council’s decision and this meeting is the latest in a long saga involving Kings Forest with similar appeals for planning restrictions lost when the NSW Govenrment was exxamining the development application.
