TWEED coffee-lovers are in for a rare treat this month when one of Australia’s leading barista trainers hosts a special coffee tasting and plantation tour at Wiuri Estate, Carool – home of the region’s own award-winning Zeta’s Coffee.
“This is much more than a simple coffee making workshop,” said Zeta Greatly whose single origin and mixed blends have won numerous national honours and accolades.
“Our special guest trainer, Richard Bradbury from Coffee Australia, will follow the whole coffee story from the plantation and harvest through the roasting process to the technical aspects of bringing the very best flavours to the cup.”
Formerly the National Training Manager for Grinders Coffee, Richard Bradbury runs tasting and brewing classes all over the country.
Earlier this year, he was also involved in a world-first installation that saw an Urban Coffee Farm created in the city surrounds of Queensbridge Square for the launch of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.
His Tweed training day will start with a tour of Zeta’s plantation, looking at how the micro-climate and volcanic soils influence the flavour of the beans grown here.
He will then present a coffee ‘cupping’ session where participants will sample local and overseas blends to compare the different flavours and characteristics.
Moving to the more technical aspects of creating the perfect espresso, the following workshops will look at the equipment, techniques and processes involved in brewing the coffee and heating the milk to create a rich, silky texture, with a final session on assembling the coffee menu.
The Australian Coffee Tasting and Plantation Tour will be held on Sunday, 17 November from 10am to 2pm (NSW time) at Zeta’s Coffee, 119 Blissetts Road, Carool.
