WANTED: Four possums, three owls, four kangaroos, a school of sardines, one dove and a red-bellied black snake.
If you’ve ever wanted to explore your inner animal and want to light up your life for an evening, then Tweed River Festival Lights on the River Lantern Parade offers the perfect opportunity.
Organisers are looking for volunteers to carry a range of lanterns of varying sizes in the parade on Saturday 9 November, at Murwillumbah’s Budd Park from 7.30pm (NSW).
Festival co-ordinator Jane Lofthouse said many of the lanterns needed a group of carriers and there were spots available for adults and children.
“It’s a chance for Mum, Dad and the kids to join in the fun and for businesses or groups to gain some exposure while having a great time,” Ms Lofthouse said.
“Team Koala has already signed up four volunteers to carry a koala lantern, so we’ll have a sign made up for them to carry,” she said.
“The Lantern Parade always attracts a good crowd and looks spectacular with the lights from the lanterns reflecting off the water. This year we’ll also have lanterns on boats in the river, which will add to the effect and the parade will be lead by a three-metre platypus sculpture,” she said.
Other lantern characters seeking carriers include Dirt Girl, Scrap Boy, large and small suns, a moon, Nemo, various Wild Things, an SES Boat, as well as a range of musical instruments, including saxophones, djembes, bass drum, guitars and bongos.
The Tweed River Festival is run by Tweed Shire Council each year as a way to encourage residents and visitors to be more aware about the importance of our waterways to our lives and lifestyles.
The event on 9 November starts at 3.30pm (NSW), offering entertainment and information and food stalls.
