Tweed Heads Bowls Club apprentice chef Teri Jorgensen
is a master chef in the
making.
Teri is one of 27 apprentice chefs from across Australia and New Zealand to participate in the prestigious Fonterra Foodservices Proud To Be A Chef 2011 program.
Designed to publicly recognise and reward the dedication and commitment of Australia’s and New Zealand’s best and brightest apprentices, Fonterra Foodservices Proud To Be A Chef gives those selected the opportunity to participate in four days of master classes in Melbourne from March 1–4, 2011, conducted by top Australian chefs, produce experts and sommeliers.
Ms Jorgensen was selected as a finalist by an expert panel of industry professionals based on her demonstrated passion to food service, aspirations, goals and commitment to chefing.
In her application Ms Jorgensen says she is proud to be a chef and enjoys the process of cooking and creating something from a few basic ingredients that someone can enjoy.
“In five years’ time I’d like to be a qualified pastry chef, and travel through Europe, especially France, to see the traditional culture of pastry, as this is my passion,” she said.
“As a chef you’re always learning and I love gaining new ideas and techniques from those around me, so I can continue to share the joys of good food with others.”
Carolyn Plummer, Fonterra Foodservices Proud to be a Chef Coordinator, said this year’s successful applicants reflected the diversity of Australian and New Zealand apprentices.
“We have a mix of young adults and mature-aged students across quite a range of ethnic backgrounds and even several second-generation apprentices who have inherited their
parents’ passion for cooking,” she said.
“As always, Fonterra is both pleased and proud to be able to support the industry by extending this opportunity to some of
our most promising apprentices.”
Ms Jorgensen has joined the other finalists in Melbourne for the March Fonterra Foodservices Proud To Be A Chef Masterclasses, with transport, transfers, meals and accommodation all paid for.
Masterclass tutors will include Adrian Richardson from La Luna Bistro and Scott Pickett from The Point restaurant.
The apprentice judged to show the most potential and aptitude during the Masterclasses will receive the once in a lifetime opportunity of an international scholarship.
