The Chillingham Ball on August 4 was a great night, with a full hall.
Winners from previous balls and last year’s winners were also there.
We had a guest from Japan, Chiharu Hamada, who was on a school exchange between Mudgeeraba State School and sister school from Hasuda (Saitama) Japan. She is being hosted by Jaime and Allison Cramp (a past Junior Miss Tweed of the 1990s) and their family. People came from all over the Tweed and over the border from Queensland. There were lots of pretty dresses, and smiles all around.
Another great supper from the local hall ladies, with raffle prizes, and lots of dancing on the night.
The winners on the night as judged by Judith Bishop and Cherrie Sandercock were:
Tiny Tot, Lana Cramp, and her brother Riley Cramp.
Junior Miss, Emily Gresham,
Junior Beau, Zachary Mullington,
Matron of Chillingham, Diana Gresham with her husband
Senior Beau, Anthony Gresham.
The final Ball will be August 25, at the Murwillumbah Catholic Hall, at the top of Main Street, tickets at the door. A formal evening with competition starting introductions at 9pm, dancing from 8pm. After the formalities and winners’ presentations, there will be more dancing then supper. The band will play until midnight, and all are welcome to join us, have a look, bring a friend, and try a new dance.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank all the Judges for the various halls, as this is a difficult task to do. It is only with the help of local ladies and gents from individual communities coming together to perpetuate a social tradition through the Ball Series. Thank you for supporting our Tweed communities. New faces are always welcome.
For families new to the area, if you would like your children to learn the art of social dancing, come along with them, as this is a family night, with no alcohol. Starting from September 15 there will be a return of the Summer Dance, with every second Saturday of the month being held at Billambil Hall, and the third Saturday of the month being held at Tumbulgum Hall.
These are casual dances, where you can lean the steps to dances of the Ball Series, meet new people, and share in a supper, in line with the Ball Series. It is an opportunity to learn dances and socialise, for all ages.
