Big day on the water

Fishing On the Tweed with David Solano

ANOTHER fantastic weekend on the Tweed, I’m pretty exhausted actually as Saturday I left on the yak around day break and headed to Cobaki armed with soft plastics – my target fish being flathead. It didn’t take long to catch a few but I couldn’t seem to land a decent fish. I noticed a boat that kept fishing over the same bank, no electric, just using the current.
I peddled over to this lone fisher to see what he was doing. Glad I did as he was surface fishing for whiting and he was a very happy chap as he’d caught a few.
Naturally I spent Sunday surface fishing with my mate Richard Creighton, we could see the fish following the lures but they just would not bite them, occasionally they’d have a go but only half-heartedly.
Come Monday morning (public holiday) 4.30am, I’m going out again with three rods and three different lures to see what damage I can do.
I’d been out a few hours fishing solely with surface lures and not really catching much, a few hits and that was it. I’m standing on my balcony looking down at my yak on the beach and I’m thinking, yeah I’m going out again.
You get to meet some great folks along the Tweed, always interesting.
