CABARITA Beach woman Julie O’Brien remembers pedal-pushers and seaside holidays in an old caravan like it was just yesterday – that’s because for Julie and husband Stephen, it was.
Julie and Stephen were bitten by the vintage caravanning bug just a couple of years ago but now it’s part of their lives.
The pair took part in the long-weekend vintage caravan rally at the soon to be closed Cabarita Caravan Park – making one of the shortest journeys for the event (just a few streets). Mind you they had just returned from a trip through Victoria in one of their six vintage vans.
Julie, who says she scans ebay, the vintage markets, St Vinnies and the Salvos for era appropriate items, believes there is nothing nicer than turning back the clock to those simpler times when vans didn’t have all the mod cons.
“That’s what is so attractive to us – looking back into our touring past,” she said.
“Going back to the era when we were growing up – back to a time of anodised cups and hard eskies.”
