THE wind will sweep through willows on the Tweed as the Murwillumbah Theatre Company brings to life the tales of Toad, Mole, Ratty and Badger.
Currently in rehearsal for opening night on Friday 18 October at the Murwillumbah Civic Centre, the theatre company are hoping to build on the success of their previous family shows James and The Giant Peach (2009), Fantastic Mr Fox (2010) and last year’s The Magic Pudding.
The show is adapted by John Morley from the much beloved Kenneth Grahame novel The Wind In The Willows.
“The well-loved characters of Toad, Mole, Ratty and Badger have been woven into an enchanting adventure story for all the family about Toad’s addiction to caravanning and his obsession with cars,” Murwillumbah Theatre Company’s Rosemary Hume said.
“We follow his imprisonment and his escape with the help of his loyal friends, who help him in his fight to regain Toad Hall from the wicked weasels.
“The Wind in the Willows is a children’s story that is said to live in the hearts and minds of its readers well into adulthood.
“With its subtle blend of anthropomorphism (attributing human form and characteristics to animals) and British humor, the book is a classic tale of river life and friendship.
“The story confirms the power of close friends and the courage to make a difference in the lives of others. There are some surprisingly dark and thrilling episodes providing all-round entertainment for all ages.”
