Young artists from three local Tweed schools have taken part in a three-day workshop aimed at helping develop their talent.
The 75 students from Centaur Primary, Terranora Primary and Banora Point High school took part in the Aurora Learning Community’s first ‘Creatia Program’.
The program is a combined effort of Centaur Primary co-ordinator Kristi Purvis, Terranora’s Danae Rosenbaum and Banora’s Tracey Gee and is aimed at introducing young artists to highly experienced artists and teachers across various artistic mediums.
Following the three-day work-shops, the students’ art work went on display to families, friends and the general public.
Kristi Purvis said the purpose of ‘Creatia 2011’ was to recognise and identify the range of talent that exists in the Aurora Learning community through art making.
“The students who participated were selected as having a talent in the visual arts and have really taken advantage of the specialised art tuition that was provided by the Banora Point High School Art Teachers and the other visiting artists who have all offered a wide variety of differing experiences,” she said.
“The workshops promote and engage students in developing a heightened awareness of art and provides an opportunity for our gifted students to express themselves with advanced tools and quality instruction.
“The students had a fantastic day and have produced brilliant creations.”
A similar program will be run at Pottsville Primary next month.
