Elliot applauds My School website

The new My School website was launched last week as part of the Federal Government’s commitment to transparency and greater education reform.
My School 2.0 went live last week, providing new information including financial data for more than 9500 schools across Australia, and information on changes in student performance.
My School 2.0 displays student performance over the past three years, comparing the gains made by students who were in the same school in 2008 and 2010.
“The site now delivers more comprehensive information about school performance and funding, meaning parents, teachers and principals all have a richer set of information about what is happening in their local schools at their fingertips,” Federal member for Richmond Justine Elliot said.
“For the first time, parents and communities will be able to see financial information for government and non-government schools, and students’ progress in NAPLAN testing.”
The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority has worked closely with the education sector to ensure the accuracy of school financial data published on My School 2.0.
The formula used to calculate the Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage (ICSEA) values, which allows comparison of schools serving students from similar backgrounds, has also been improved.
This ensures that differ-ences in student population can be taken into account when looking at school results to ensure fair comparisons.
“The new information available on My School will help us to see at a local level which schools are performing well and better informs discussion about improving school performance,” Justine said.
“It helps deliver unprecedented transparency for parents and school communities across Australia.”
The Australian Govern-ment has almost doubled funding to schools since 2007, investing $64.9 billion in the system.
