The Tweed Senior’s Week Committee are set to run a Healthy Living event that will promote and educate the Tweed Shire’s Senior’s on the benefits of physical activity and good nutrition.
The aim also is to link Senior’s with existing physical activity groups and organisations within the shire.
“Tasting Life- Because life is delicious” will be held on Wednesda, March 23, from 8am to 11am, at Jack Bayliss Park (Northern end), Marine parade, Kingscliff.
The day will begin with a guided historical “Umbrella” walk led by Julia Gill and Liz Patterson, Health promotion staff from North Coast Area Health Service. This will then be followed by a talk by Kimberly Reed, Dietitian from Great Ideas in nutrition. A cooking display by local Chef Juan Erezuma will take place at the public BBQ’s on site.
There will be demonstrations and come and try sessions through out the morning as well.These sessions will include; a Tai Chi Session by Margaret Hagan and a gentle exercise demonstration and come and try session led by Andrea Watson from Ocean View Supported living accommodation. A Push Cush demonstration will be led by Julia Gill from North Coast Area Health Service. A diabetic educational talk will be given by Michelle Quirk from North Coast Area Health Service.
Local physical activity groups will also have information tables set up so that senior’s are able to connect with already established groups and become involved in the activities that they run.
The information tables will be available from 8am to 11am.
Fresh fruit platters and ice cold bottled water will be available for a refreshing and healthy morning tea.
Senior’s from throughout the Shire are urged to come along and participate in one or all events or browse the information tables available.
Bring along your friends and family members, as everyone is welcome to attend. All participants are asked to bring along a water bottle and umbrella for the walk, as well as wear appropriate footwear. This event is a morning event so participants are urged to wear sun screen and a hat.
Senior’s Week runs from March 20 – 27.
