A twilight memorial service will be held at the Allambe Memorial Park Bali Memorial to remember those lost in Bali Bombing a decade ago – including Tweed’s Billy Hardy.
This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the day that 202 people, including 88 Australians, died in the terrorist attack of the Bali Bombing.
The Gold Coast’s Allambe Memorial Park will host the Twilight Memorial Service on Friday at 5pm (Qld) to remember all the victims of the 2002 Bali bombing tragedy.
The establishment of the Bali bombing memorial site at Allambe Memorial Park was co-ordinated by Geoffrey and Syamsinar Thwaites, who lost their son Robert in the tragedy.
The Indonesian-style stone memorial features a bronze plaque with the names of the Australian victims, including the seven Queenslanders: Robert Thwaites, David Kent, Nathan Swain, Jared Gane, Jodie Cearns, Julie Stevenson and Coolangatta-Tweed footballer Billy Hardy.
At the 2003 dedication of the memorial, Her Excellency, Governor of Queensland, Quentin Bryce (now Governor-General) said that this memorial speaks of the triumph of good over evil and the need to remember and achieve peace.
Well-known Gold Coast Popera tenor, Daniel Mallari, will perform songs of dedication and remembrance at this 10th Anniversary Memorial Service.
This will be the fourth Memorial Service that Daniel has been part of and he will once again inspire friends and relatives of Bali bombing victims with a selection of heartfelt and inspiring Popera arrangements.
With a strong Balinese ambience including Balinese music and dancers, there will be the traditional laying of wreaths, rose petal and dove ceremony, and the scent of incense will fill the air.
The Twilight Memorial Service will be attended by representatives from local and state governments, business and community and everyone is welcome.
