Clubbies Corner by Tania Phillips
THE Cudgen Headland Club staged a very successful surf carnival last Sunday. It attracted entries from seven Queensland clubs as well as our own branch. Thanks to carnival officials, water safety crews and club members who assisted throughout the day.
There was a brief break in competition during which Bruce Williams presented the club with a new inshore rescue boat on behalf of J.H. Williams. This gives the club two new IRBs and a motor this season with a value of $30,000 from donations and fund-raising.
In competition, members won 15 events with 17 minor placings. The 15-year group were dominant in the team events, winning the Cameron relay, board relay, and surf teams, Tara Fitzpatrick the sprint and flags and Lewis Warne the board; while in the open events, our men won the ski relay, Taplin relay, board rescue, iron man, surf with Elle Leaver the female ski.
Next Sunday, Byron Bay will host the juniors teams events carnival.
Nominations for the Cudgen club board of directors close next Sunday with the annual meeting and financial report on the following Sunday at 10am. Nominations and forms are posted on the top floor noticeboard.
Also on 22 December, the juniors will hold their Christmas party and the seniors will hold their Christmas gathering on the front lawn following the annual meeting. All members are invited.
