Twilight racing for Tweed

By STEPHEN SENISE

THE Tweed River Jockey Club (TRJC) will host three race meetings in quick succession over early summer, starting with this Friday’s twilight Christmas Cup meeting.
Being a twilight affair, the first race is not due to get under way until mid-afternoon. TRJC secretary-manager Rachael Elliott said the club were keen to be hosting the summer-friendly meeting.
“Everything is put back a few hours, the start, and the finish, so it will encourage locals to wander in after work, maybe as part of the office Christmas celebrations.
“Band, Innocent Bystanders will be performing live after the last race until 10pm.
“Our website carries details and times for bus services to and from the track for those who don’t want to drive.”
“Reservations for marquees are still available, so there’s plenty of opportunity to get into the spirit of the season.
“We’ve been having some great sunny weather in recent months, which has really helped the track dry out, and we’re looking to a continuation of track records tumbling as we’ve already seen so far during the 2013/14 racing season.
“We’ve had a big response from owners and connections for Friday’s races, and at this stage we’ve had 150 horses nominated for the eight-event card.
Murwillumbah’s other summer (non-twilight) meetings will be conducted on 29 December, 5 January and 25 February.
