Police are urging parents to reinforce the ‘Safe People, Safe Places’ messages with their children following an incident in Kingscliff last weekend.
Police are investigating the attempted abduction of a young girl. About 6.30pm, Sunday, October 9, 2011 a 10-year-old girl was on the street outside her grandmother’s unit complex in Moss Street, Kingscliff.
She was approached by a man who spoke to her and attempted to lure her into his car.
The young girl became concerned and ran back into the block of units, reporting the man to her mother. She was not injured during the incident.
Police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command were contacted and commenced patrols of the area for the man involved.
The girl told police he was of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean appearance, about 40 years old, of solid build, with short, grey hair parted to the side.
He was wearing black-framed reading glasses, a thick blue jumper and spoke with an ‘Australian’ accent.
The car the man was driving has been described as a green Jaguar, or similar, sedan with maps and papers strewn around the vehicle. There was damage to the driver’s front door and the boot of the vehicle was open but tied down.
