110000_01 The Candyman.

By TANIA PHILLIPS

WAYNE Scott Kermond has music flowing in his veins and rhythm programmed into his DNA.
There probably aren’t many performers these days that can tell you they are a third generation song and dance man – we are all led to believe it’s a dying skill.
But if that’s true then someone forgot to tell Wayne – not only is he third generation – he already has a son forging the same career path – so much for it being a dying art.
So with such a love of performing it is little wonder that Wayne should look to his heroes for inspiration and almost seven years ago he did – developing the Candyman – a celebration of the song and dance through the music of Sammy Davis Jr!
I spoke to him back then about this ambitious show – a show which went on to garner rave reviews for its staging, high energy and skills. At that stage this big show was a hit in the capital cities. Fast forward and after sell-out shows Wayne put the Candyman show to bed for a few years – with the Mo Award winner moving on to a myriad of other well-known shows.
But it has always been there and now Candyman is back and Wayne and is enjoying working on his own show again, tweaking it for regional centres and bringing a concert version of it to Twin Towns.
Wayne takes the audience on a journey, parallel to his own, through the legendary career of the ultimate entertainer in vaudeville, Las Vegas nightclubs, concert halls, musicals, film and television.
He has captured the feelgood essence and energy of Sammy, the decisive song and dance man, with his imagination, talent and creativity bringing to life the complete entertainment experience.
Wayne gives an insight into a song and dance man’s intricate personality and the triumph over his own doubts and fears. This show captures the audience’s imagination as they share in this unique journey.
The evening features a band, showgirls and even a choir of youngsters (how could you do the signature song Candyman without them?) with a local twist.
In this case the young performers have been chosen from Gold Coast Tweed dance groups, Dynamite Studios from Upper Coomera; Studio at Tweed Heads is Dance Force and Studio at Ashmore is Sheridans Studio 1.
Who: Candyman
